For Immediate Release

April 29, 2010

After careful consideration, The Michigan 50's Festival announced today that the event that has taken place in Novi, Michigan for over 20 years has been permanently cancelled. Citing economic woes the Festival Board of Directors made the painful decision at a Board Meeting on April 28th.

Festival Vice-President Bob McCann stated that "After careful consideration it was determined that in order for us to maintain the quality event that residents of Novi and the surrounding communities have come to enjoy over the last 20 plus years, it is imperative that we have the support of the business community. During these tough economic times, it has become increasingly difficult for businesses to find extra monies to support our community event." It is estimated that it takes up to $150,000 annually to produce the event and 100% of the net proceeds go back to the community. The Festivals Board of Directors is comprised of volunteers who derive no financial benefit from the event.

Festival President Lori Piers added, "This was an extremely difficult decision, we have put our heart and soul into this event for many years and as difficult as it is, it is the prudent thing to do. The last thing we wanted to do was to go into debt, at this point we are in a position to dispense of the assets of the corporation and donate those assets to charitable causes within the community."

Piers added that the Festival Board wanted to acknowledge the gratuitous support of our many sponsors over the years. Chief among them Bright House Networks who has been the title sponsor of the Festival for the past 15 years. Also, the Board wishes to thank the City of Novi and our many "Cruisers" the volunteers who worked so hard to produce the festival each year. "There are so many people who have helped along the way, it is impossible to thank them all here, but we want them all to know that the residents of Novi greatly appreciate their efforts."
